The scriptures speak to us about the end times and a great departure from the faith. Some believers will depart from the faith of Jesus Christ and become liars!

1 Timothy 4:1-2 But the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of demons, (2) speaking lies in hypocrisy, being seared in their own conscience,

They will have an outward appearance of religion but will deny the power of God who raises us from the dead with Christ. True believers were at one time dead in their sins, but are now risen with Christ through the power of God. (See Romans Chapter 6) They now live a new and transformed life having been raised from the dead with Christ by the power of God. They latter day professing believers will deny this power of God!

2 Timothy 3:1-7 Know this also, that in the last days grievous times will be at hand. (2) For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self-control, savage, despisers of good, (4) traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, (5) having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; even turn away from these. (6) For of these are those who creep into houses and lead captive silly women loaded with sins, led away with different kinds of lusts, (7) ever learning and never able to come to the full knowledge of the truth.

 

The easiest way to tell who the backsliders are is to take note of their ungodly lives! The fruit being brought forth is a clear indicator that the tree is evil.

Jude 1:17-19 But you, beloved, remember the words spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, (18) because they told you that at the last time there will be mockers according to their lusts, leading ungodly lives. (19) These are those setting themselves apart, animal-like ones, not having the Spirit. They will question the second coming of Christ or say that it has already taken place.

2 Peter 3:3-4 First, knowing this, that there will come in the last days scoffers walking according to their own lusts (4) and saying, where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.

They will betray their brothers in the Lord, the true believers. They will be easily led astray by false prophets.

​

Matthew 24:10-13 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. (11) And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. (12) And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. (13) But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

​

Just as Israel in old times was led astray by false prophets, these will be led astray by false teachers who will bring teachings into the church which directly contradict the truth spoken by the Lord Jesus. Their motive for these false teachings will be money. They will gain a large following by speaking lies!​

2 Peter 2:1-3 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. (3) And in their greed, they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
