PREFACE

A sturdy dwelling place must have a solid foundation beneath so that it may support the structure above. We who believe in the Lord Jesus are built together on the sure foundation of Christ. We are built together as living stones that we may be a dwelling place for God himself. The focus of this book is to aid the reader in the understanding of basic Bible teaching. What follows is purposely without opinion and speculation and relies on the scriptures themselves to communicate God’s eternal truth. The author has organized the scriptures and added some explanation and emphasis to help you the reader see the harmony of God’s message. May God bless you as you consider his eternal word!

1 Cor 3:11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Eph 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

1 Pet 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

We must be established in the basic principles of Christ's doctrine in order to go on to perfection (completion) in the Lord. These basic principles are known as “the foundation”. God's foundation includes six fundamental teachings which are mentioned in the following verses.

Heb 6:1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principals of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.  In the following six chapters we will consider these six basic doctrines which make up the foundation of Christ.

Repentance From Dead Works

Faith Toward God

The Doctrine of Baptisms

The Laying On of Hands

Resurrection of the Dead

Eternal Judgment

As you consider the word of God, remember that these are six components of a single foundation. These six essentials are closely woven together with each portion of the foundation reinforcing the others.
